Art After 5

 What:   Diverse jazz and world music artists perform this spring in Art After 5 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Each Friday evening, the Museum’s Great Stair Hall becomes a concert hall, complete with cocktails, elegant café-style appetizers, and desserts. Art After 5 features emerging and established jazz performers, with forays on the first Friday of each month into other musical genres. Between sets visitors have a chance to explore the Museum’s galleries and special exhibitions. On this Friday, Magos Herrera brings his Latin flair and acclaimed voice to to the Museum.

What: In its third exhibition of Fleisher Art Memorial's Wind Challenge series, Challenge 3 showcases the work of three talented artists. Johanna Inman will be showing old photographs focusing on disregarded books and highlighting the subtleties of time and decomposition; Yvonne Lung will show a video installation based on stories told to her by Chinese immigrants and Constantina Zavitsanos will be showing unique, engaging sculptures. Gallery hours are 11AM - 5PM.

What: This two part exhibit highlights similar art themes across neighboring cultures. The first part features Korean screen paintings with notable Chinese narratives like General Guo Ziyi’s Banquet and the Hundred Children. These images are presented alongside Chinese ceramics of the Qing dynasty (1616–1912).

What: The first responders saved countless lives on 9/11; now it's time for everyone else to save theirs. The Fealagood Foundation Benefit will feature Philadelphia bands and solo artists Black Landlord, Valsalva, The Lads, Mike Reis and the Weapons of Mass Compassion and Art Difuria in order to raise money for the first responders, who still suffer from health issues today, more than seven years later.

PEX Summer Festival

What: The Philadelphia Experiment(PEX) is a new annual festival that will be held over 3 days in Darlington, Maryland on a 200 acre campground.  The festival wil feature live performances by King Britt and Nickodemus with Playloop DJ's Justin Paul, Lee Mayjahs?, DJ Everyday, Kezner, Dave Hughes and Ross D.  In addition to live musical performances there will also be drum and dance circles, live painters, spoken word, Arche Dream for Humankind mask theater company and much much more.

Where:Darlington, Maryland, (1 hour from Philly) on 200 private acres overlooking the Susquehanna River.

WXPN's Free At Noon: Chairlift

What: WXPN Radio's much beloved Free at Noon concert series brings you Chairlift, an up-and-coming Colorado trio (transplanted into Brooklyn) bringing a semi-serious brand of New Wave-style dance punk. They've performed with other indie up-and-comers like MGMT and Yeasayer and promise to deliver some hauntingly infectious melodies coupled with airy vocals and this good ol' dance party of a show.
