 The Limits of Control, a film by Jim Jarmusch, tells the story of a mysterious loner (played by Isaach de Bankole) who encounters a variety of eccentric characters that all have a surreal, mysterious sense of style. On his journey across Spain and and into his inner consciousness, de Bankole’s “Lone Man” evokes the timelessly cool and perpetually-dressed-to-impress style of a '20s jazz man. As a hitman who operates outside the law and whose motives remain unclear, he rocks perfectly tailored, sharkskin suits that lack obvious flash but have a subtle shine, giving him the no-frills look of a completely professional, yet very style-conscious, assassin.

During his dream-like mission, the “Lone Man” interacts with characters that wear outfits that would look like costumes on mere mortals. He’s greeted by Paz de la Huerta, who plays, “Nude," a seductress who remains nude for most of the film, but dons a transparent raincoat and sexy librarian style glasses in her most clothed moments. A perpetual fashion risk-taker, Tilda Swinton flaunts her signature androgynous and otherworldly style, while channeling iconic transsexual and Warhol-muse, Candy Darling, with a classic trench coat, tan cowboy hat and bleach-blonde hair. Youki Kudoh puts a modern twist on retro pieces like Jackie-O sunglasses and polka-dot clothing. Showcasing an unconventional sense of cool, John Hurt goes incognito, while still looking identifiably stylish in a rumpled trench coat, black fedora, and opaque sunglasses. Rocking a look based on this film’s offbeat aesthetic, and the right confident attitude, you’ll be ready for your own stylish life of crime.
