So, accepting that the 2008 world champs didn't seem to capture the fancy of the American People at large -- for reasons, I might add, that seem wholly unsatisfactory (more on that below) -- this stand-out sports collection of the key games that led to the Phils' breaking the city's 25-year-old draught might not appeal to many people outside the 215/610 demo, but them's the breaks. Covering the final six Phillies' victories, including Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers to the historic, and utterly bizarre, World Series clinching win in game 5.5, this collection offers you a chance to relive the memories with the benefit of slo-mo, rewind and pause. More significantly, the collection also offers you a choice of broadcast announcers (Joe Buck, meet Harry Kalas, and don't let the door bang you in the ass on your way out) and offers an array of bonus materials, mostly centering on team celebrations and interviews. The one quibble is that they don't include the entire Phillies run in the playoffs. You imagine the producers were looking for an appropriate price point, but seeing as how the 2004 Boston Redsox collection includes each of the epic seven-game ALCS against the Yankees, it hardly seems too much to ask for similar respect. As for the supposed lack of drawing power of these Phils -- reportedly, the WS with the Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays drew less-than-impressive ratings numbers -- America just needs a better look at charismatic young stars like Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in order to properly become acquainted. Perhaps they'll have that opportunity in this year's championship series.
