Welcome to Rapture. No, Jesus isn't here. But if he were, he'd love playing this FPS from 2K Games. You just fell from a plane into the underwater city of Rapture, a '50s style art-deco city run by Andrew Ryan, the creator of BioShock, who enlisted a league of scientists to design the perfect human in this underwater world. The story behind Ryan’s dystopia unfolds through voiceovers in this first person shooter. BioShock’s combat system is as unique as Rapture’s design. Along with the traditional weaponry you must find plasmids, which upon injecting into your arm, will give you interesting and unique powers from the ability to use telepathy to control inanimate objects, to enraging your enemies to fight each other. These plasmids offer an interesting gaming experience that rises above the typical FPS. Also, the A.I. is absolutely top-notch, adapting to different attacks and allowing for challenging battles throughout. This is truly scintillating stuff.

Gameplay: 9.4
The incredibly tight controls, non-stop action and gripping story will have you playing for at least twenty hours, if not straight.

Graphics: 9.5
In a word, flawless. Truly taking advantage of the 360’s graphical engine. In particular, the lighting and the water are extraordinary.

Sound: 9.5
Creepy echoes and cat calls -- often from demented mothers looking after their weapons hidden in baby cribs -- add an eerie mood to an already illustrious game.

Value: 8.5
A must-buy. One of the best games for the Xbox 360 available today. However, it must be said the game has a distinct gameplay timeline and, unfortunately, has little replay value.

Overall: 9.4

This is the type of FPS gamedorks wish for when they blow out their birthday candles. It is beautiful, atmospheric and totally fun to play. The game is nearly perfect with the arguable exception of an overused and repetitive hacking system, which requires the player to complete puzzles first seen on floppy disk and that slow down the otherwise break-neck pace of the game.

This game rules, but the sound is messed up. Hate that creeped-out sound effect stuff, it freaked me but good.
