Silent Movie

Every song tells a story and in the case of Quiet Village’s Silent Movie, every song tells a visual story. As it ebbs and flows between '70s soul, World Music, and Italo-Disco, each one paints a cinematic picture in your mind. As is the case with film, titles typically reflect their stories. Silent Movie’s song titles act in a similar fashion. The Blaxploitation-inspired “Circus of Horrors” and the hypnotic, ethereal minimalism of “Pillow Talk” are the most accessible, but no less rewarding than the others. “Too High To Move” is stoned-out soul drama, “Can’t Be Beat” sounds like the Miami Vice theme remixed by Giorgio Moroder and “Utopia” could be the national anthem to an undiscovered island of paradise. Quiet Village dip their paintbrushes into a variety of different colors on this album, but it remains maintains an odd consistency and cohesion. In terms of ambiance, style and emotion, Silent Movie speaks loudly. (!K7)
