Earth to the Dandy Warhols

Someone decided to give the Dandy Warhols a wake-up call because on their newest album, the aptly-titled Earth to the Dandy Warhols, the band is looking to reclaim their stride. There are no mind-blowing, hit singles on the album, but, as a collection of versatile, catchy songs it’s enjoyable and unlike their last few releases, this album is more memorable. The Lou Reed meets Parliament Funkadelic groove of “Welcome to the 3rd World” sees lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor at his sauciest, while the breathy, banjo-laden “Love Song” is easily the best song the band has recorded in years. Still, there are some low points like the dull, 14-minute-plus closer and the poor-man’s Cramps sounding tune “Mission Control.” For those who are yearning for the band’s glory days, this album re-kindles some of that magic and manages to pull a few new tricks out of their sleeves.
