Get Damaged
Rating: 7.5 | 0 User Reviews | Send to Friend
Be Your Own Pet’s Get Damaged EP consists of three songs that Universal Records deemed inappropriate to include on this year’s accomplished twee-punk album Get Awkward. It was a silly move considering the fact that these songs are no more offensive than shows on television or movies that, ironically, Universal Pictures has released. The song “Becky” depicts a classic cat-fight and revenge scenario, which most girls on this planet can relate to. Lead singer Jemina Perl throws out some vulgarities and a few ultra-violent threats, but within the context of punk-rock history, it ain’t nothing. “Blow Yr Mind” is the best track here, quick, dirty and fueled with anger, while “Black Hole” is the weakest in terms of both songwriting and offensiveness. Kudos to the band for refusing to be censored and seeking out another label to release these songs. If it weren’t for the hypocritical, gutless fat cats at the majors, “Becky” and “Blow Yr Mind” would’ve been great additions to the album. Will they ever learn? (XL Recordings)
