By Steve Woodson

Fans of Jazmine have been waiting for this moment a while. We all watched her over the years and with this release, it feels like the end result of a lot of collective patience, love, trust, determination and focus. She was, after all, groomed by Ryva, Fatin and Aja of Kindred, and Jill Scott, Lady Alma and others that showed her much love. Thanks to producers Salaam Remi, Dirty Harry, Jack Splash, Stargate and Missy Elliott, Jazmine's astounding debut album feels like something we've all been waiting on. Beginning with bright, hi-fi violins, the album quickly explodes into an urban-influenced thump before the band piledrives into swaggering psych hooks. Imagine if Asteroids of Fire inverted their ratio of chaos to craft and skill. She reps Philly to the tee with the first breakthrough single "I Need You Bad," and follows that up with the knockout blow, "Bust Your Windows," an instant classic about taking out emotional anger on car windows, which, as it happens, is an extremely painful topic for me. If you dig the two singles, my personal favorite, "Lions, Tigers and Bears," will absolutely blow your mind. All together, the tracks become nothing short of transcendent, managing to be both raw and beautiful at once. Every now and then an artist comes along and sears straight through the heart of the industry, setting the standard for all that comes after. Ladies and gents, this here is the real deal.
