Remember how your parents would laugh after you came home with acid wash jeans. Who hasn’t heard “those used to be cool when I was in school”? Yeah, mom and dad, we get it. Unfortunately, fashion kind of sucks, because although it's always reinventing itself, sometimes it gets tired and says, 'Fuck it, let’s just use that style from two decades ago, I’ve got a hangover from last night’s bender anyways and they’ll never know the difference.' Look, fashion, we know, and we're ok with it. Some fads shouldn’t go out of style and some keep popping back up no matter how hard we try (I’m talking to YOU shoulder pads, I saw you sneaking around, preparing for '09 just like that). So that’s why this month we're reminding everyone just cause your going for that 'retro' look doesn’t mean you have to go walking around like Jane Fonda just slapped you upside the head.

Fashion icons have existed since Cleopatra started telling everyone heavy eye shadow was HER thing. Here and now, in our special "Historic Women" photo shoot, you can check out style icons like Amelia Earhart and Candy Darling and find out ways to cop their timeless style. Don’t think these woman put together their look with a MAC lady and some makeup; these women suffered. Hard.
