Easy A: "A is for Awesome"
by Lucy XuLet us trace the grand journey of Olive Penderghast's reputation: A nobody turned into an admired vixen turned into school slut.
I will admit, though an avid Mean Girls fan, I approached watching this movie with hesitation. I thought it would be like one of those teenage humor movies (i.e. Superbad, Napolean Dynamite) which I don't really like to watch because I don't really enjoy the humor...but rather is more fun to quote with your friends afterwards. Per shining review by @annd, I decided to give it a shot. OBSESSED.
Olive has the kind of spunk I wish I had in middle school and high school (aka the toughest years of adolescent life) -- not to mention the kind of parents I wish I had my entire life. She's really quite okay with just blending into the crowd, and once her little white lie starts churning the rumor mill, she takes it and runs with it. People start calling her a dirty skank? She'll show them an even dirtier one...sticking it to the man. Emma Stone was the perfect character to play Olive; her facial expressions were priceless, and let us not forget her singing in the shower scene. Must say, I'm a little disappointed that Easy A didn't win more popcorn at the MTV Movie Awards (which took place two nights ago) but I guess it had some pretty tough competition against movies like Twilight and Harry Potter...but another post for another time.
Cheers to my first shot at a shoddy movie kind-of-review. All I'm saying is that the movie is truly a hidden gem...so watch it!
