Just a Glimpse: Strangefruit Fall/Winter 2011

by Max McCormack
Kristin Haskin-Simms latest collection for her label is all about a fresh new silhouette and one-of-a-kind construction.

The label Strangefruit has been a staple in the Philly-fashion scene for some time. Kristin Haskin-Simms (above), the designer, does a fantastic job of getting herself out there by using Fashion Weeks and, of course, Project Runway. For her Fall/Winter collection she showed a subdued color palette and her  usually overtly-constructed feminine codes. There was a brilliant use of fabrics, like jersey and poplin, that we're all accustomed to but Simms cut, draped, and constructed the pieces in an invigoratingly new way.
